First, let me apologize for being so long without writing. We moved into a new house at the beginning of the summer and it has been a little upside-down around here for the last couple of months. But things are starting to settle, and so I’m hoping to be more consistent in my blog posts. Thank you for your patience with me.
I’ve recently been very blessed to have a beautiful and holy woman agree to be a Spiritual Director, and I’m so excited! I’ve been wanting a spiritual director, someone who would help me to grow closer to God, for a long time and God has finally answered my prayer! I’m still new to the whole experience, and as I learn more, I will share with you my experience with spiritual direction.
For now, one thing that my SD (Spiritual Director, it’s so long to keep typing…) has suggested is that I spend at least 5 minutes a day in prayer, just conversing with God. I’ve been incorporating different materials into my daily prayer life such as reading the Bible, doing daily Mass readings, saying the Rosary etc. which have been very good and helpful in that I am learning to recognize God’s voice in the world. But making a point in spending time with God alone, as many of you have shared that you do, has been very refreshing. I don’t think that you can have one without the other, and this is where it is important to find a balance. I find that in order to learn to recognize God’s voice, we have to immerse ourselves in his Word (aka the Bible). However, if we’re only ever reading, and we never spend time just talking to God, then it will be difficult to develop a close relationship with God.
I’ve decided to make a commitment to spend 5-10 minutes everyday just talking with God. If it’s a busy day and this is all I have time to do, then at least I will do this. I’m making this commitment from now until the next time I meet with my SD.
Is there one thing that you could commit to doing to grow closer to God over this next month? I’d love to hear what your thoughts are on this!
God bless,
Lucero
